One might think that getting your drivers license would be easy, but its not!
This is how I am trying to do it. Do not attempt!!!

1. Go to drivers ed and get drivers ed paper. :)
2. Have mom draw directions to Matthews doctor appointment on the back of the envelope. :(
3. Have dad help clean the van and see that there is a random envelope on the dash of the van with some scribbles on it. :(
4. Turn 16 on may 13th (have to to get license by 16th or take driving test). :) :)
5. Search for your drivers ed paper before going to get license. :(
6. Realize what happened to your drivers ed paper months after dad threw it away (by accident). :( :( :(
7. Wait two weeks for a copy to come in the mail ( it has been a year since I went to drivers ed so now I have to take the driving test). :(
8. Go to Iowa city to take driving test (all booked for that day). :) :(
9. Go to Iowa city to take driving test (soonest would be 3:15, its 11:30) :(
10. Call Washington county office to take driving test on Monday June 8th. :( :) :)
11. Yet to be filled( I'm leaving an empty space, something will go wrong). :P

There it is, a simple ten step plan to get your drivers license.
I still have to get my drivers license; heading to Washington on Monday.
Hopefully I'll finally get it.

To the blog readers(if i have any left).
I may not post as usual because of all the fair projects. Our county is going to paint the whole fairgrounds the 13th and 20th of June and then its pretty much fair time.
Bridgette and I will be playing our duet on the 10th at around 7 pm.And I will be posting a video soon.

Iowa county Fair is July 9th-12th.

The first calf

We have been waiting for the first calf for a quite a while. He was finally born last Sunday morning. We got back from Beef Expo on Saturday afternoon and checked the cow and nothing was happening. So we went to bed. the next day before we left for Beef Expo and found that she had a little bull calf. The cow is Brandt's, which he bought at a special cattle auction last fall. We don't normally calve this time of year but the sire of the calf is a really good bull that is now dead . And the cow's price was right for how good she is, and how good the bull was that she was bred to.

He will probably be staying here on the farm for the rest of his life.

Beef Expo 2009

Last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was Beef Expo in Des Moines. Brandt and I both took a heifer.

Here is what happened.

After we wash them in a heated wash rack that is huge, we have to blow out all the water with a cattle blower. The little yellow thing behind the cattle chute.

After they are dry, Brandt clipped their hair so that they look good and showy.
Then with a lot of different hair sprays they are finally ready to go to the show ring.

This is me with my blue roan heifer.
She had to be shown as a crossbred because the Chianina registration papers are in Dad's name.
I got 14th place out of 15 and not as bad as Brandt.

She was shown as a Chianina.
Brandt got 16th place out of 16 with his heifer.

We are planing to go to some more shows this spring so keep checking back for more pictures.

The BIG one

It is deer season, as most of you can tell by all the booming that is everywhere. Here is the story of what happened when Brandt got Buck Fever.

Brandt hunting.

Look Brandt there's one.

Looks like a buck Brandt! Bang! bang! bang! (Brandt misses)

Bang! Bang! Bang! Brandt hits his back leg. Bang! Bang!

Bang! Bang! Brandt misses.

At this point the buck finally starts to walk away. Bang! The last shot and he starts to run.

And he is gone, still alive, still running. Brandt saw him the day after, and unfortunately for Brandt, he will NOT be hanging on the wall in our living room.

So, we are still trying to find him so that someday Brandt will have his trophy.
By the way, he was a 9 or 10 point buck.

The poultry show

It is a little late to post this but about two weeks ago was the eastern Iowa poultry association fall show. I took nine chickens and got some best of variety and best of breed, but did not win anything else. Here are some pictures of last Saturday.

The judging

The third judge with the standard chickens was Butch Gunderson.

More judging( their were 2100 birds at the show being judged in one day).

After the judging some of the bird took naps.

And some of them just rested.

RARE BREEDS ( or odd some pictures).

A crested white pekin.

The rare rainbow chicken (or a Belgian bearded d'uccle mille fleur pullet and cockerel below).

The rare headless frizzle cochin ( Its head is behind its wing).

I have a Nikon D80 with 2 lenses. Here are some pictures of Bridgettes but we have the same camera.

AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED2

This lens is good for indoor and outdoor pictures.

AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm F/4-5.6G.

This lens I like to use outside for clear pictures.

Combining

Today was the fifth day of harvest.My uncle and his mom do all of our combining.Now we have 30 acres of beans and a lot (when I say a lot I mean a lot) of corn left to do. Here are a few pictures of what happened.

Brandt is checking to see if we have any more room in the bin for one more grain wagon.
